Brief Introduction of our day!
Today we visited Sangam Media Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), SM Town and Coex Mall! Read on to find out more!
Day 2
We then had a nutritious lunch of ginseng chicken soup and rice before heading off to SM Town and Coex Mall. Here, we got to see how Kpop and Kdramas are an integral part of Korean pop culture and how architecture and design are very important in attracting consumers to malls in our day and age of online shopping.
Before we knew it, it was dinner time and today we got to try wrapping our own vege wraps with steamed meat, kimchi and rice! We are truly (and literally) growing more and more in love with Korean food everyday!
With a good night's rest and a hearty breakfast, we set off to Sangam MBC. Here, we got to experience Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) in ways we never imagined possible! We were able to take pictures with some of our favourite Korean celebrities, sing Kpop with them and even dance with them! We also had a go at being news anchors, off-site reporters and weather reporters!

Here are our reflections for the day:
"One way technology has enhanced my experience at Sangam MBC was the application of AR. There were different interactive booths that involved the AR experience and I really enjoyed it as I was able to take pictures, sing and dance with my favourite Kpop idols and Kdrama actors!! They looked so real! I think that the use of AR is becoming more popular as technology advances and wonder if it can also be used in other sectors like the medical sector.
Another use of technology that surprised me at SM Town was when we saw very realistic 3D-printed figurines of different Kpop idols! I think 3D printing is a unique way of recreating all sorts of objects and allowing us to explore our creativity to make new objects." - Priscilla
"Some of the technologies that truly amazed me today were the AR and VR experience offered at Sangam MBC. It allowed us to hang out with top Korean idols and put us in realistic 4D situations such as riding a rollercoaster. The experience really transformed my perspective of things and I'm excited to learn more about these new technologies.
Another aspect of technology that we got to observe today was how it is used to automate processes. One example was when we used a tax refund machine, instead of having to go to a tax refund counter. The machine had a simple step by step guide, much like the automated immigration gates at the airport. It really shows how technological advancement has increased the efficiency of technically everything! Its amazing!" - Beatrice

"From our experiences today, I discovered that the incorporation of technology plays a great role in enhancing visits to Sangam MBC and SM Town.
One such example is the VR experience at Sangnam MBC. The 4D video allowed me to take a virtual tour of the MBC building in a fun way and the experience was really different and unique. My friends also got to take photos with their idols in the AR experience. The photos taken were of very good quality and there weren’t any lags or kinks during the photo taking process. It was really impressive to know that technology is able to allow us to do that!
Another technology was the advanced video recording which allowed us to try being news reporters and weather reporters! We were given a script to read off a teleprompter and got a feel of what it is like to be recording live! The experience was really fun as it was the first time we were trying this out!" - Gao Jie

We got to experience being newscasters, reporters and weather forecasters thanks to the fantastic coordination of different technologies and also the good quality filming done by the advanced camera.
Another surprising use of technology was in the toilets at SM Town, the tissue paper and soap were water soluble to promote environmental friendliness. Even in necessities, no matter how small, science is being applied to help protect the environment and improve the functionality of such products. In order for such new and environmentally friendly products to be made, I believe it took a lot of research and advanced technology." - Jia Huey
